Art Week in New York

The city’s first art week built around its galleries, Art Week NYC, runs November 11 to 14. The ADAA Fair takes the Park Avenue Armory from November 12, and the evening sales follow. One fortnight, planned in one place.

The first Art Week NYC

The Galleries Go First

New York has had fair weeks for decades. It has not had an art week built around its galleries. Art Week NYC, presented by Artforum, ARTnews and Art in America, all owned by Penske Media Corporation, runs from Wednesday, November 11, to Saturday, November 14, 2026. It is a citywide program, not a fair: there is no single venue and no booths.

The gallery program, run by Artforum, is the core. On August 4 the organizers named 76 galleries, from Gagosian, David Zwirner, Hauser & Wirth and Pace to younger spaces such as Margot Samel and Sebastian Gladstone. They sit in four districts, Chelsea, Tribeca, the Lower East Side and the Upper East Side, and the announcement promises “three days of openings and activations” organized by neighborhood, with walkthroughs, performances and talks. By October 16 Artforum put the count at “more than eighty.” The organizers’ own site still says 70. Until a final list appears, this guide prints the list of August 4 and says so.

On October 16 the organizers added 32 museums, institutions and nonprofits, from the Met, the Whitney and the Guggenheim to White Columns, the Queens Museum and the High Line. The New Museum is the institutional partner. On Saturday, November 14, it and Artforum co-present Site Conditions: Five Talks on Art and the City, a day of sessions in the New Museum Theater on new museum buildings, artists turning to film, the cost of working in New York and machine intelligence in the studio.

Midtown is the fifth point on the map. ARTnews and Art in America will program a hub there, with interviews, panels and sponsor activations, and ARTnews editors will lead gallery tours in each district. Neither the hub’s address nor its schedule had been published on October 19.

Why this week

One Fortnight, Three Calendars

Art Week NYC was placed to overlap two older fixtures. The ADAA Fair, the Art Dealers Association of America’s successor to The Art Show, opens at the Park Avenue Armory with a gala on Thursday, November 12, and public days from Friday to Monday. Art Week and the fair announced a cross-promotion, and ADAA is also on the list of participating institutions. Then come the November evening sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips, from Monday, November 16. A visitor who comes for the galleries can stay for the fair and the auctions in a single trip of about ten days.

Art Week NYC runs Wednesday to Saturday, the days most New York galleries are open anyway. It also starts on Veterans Day, a federal holiday, which matters for banks and post offices more than for galleries. See November in the City.

Not the May week

Which New York Art Week?

Search for “New York Art Week” and you will mostly find May, when Frieze New York, TEFAF New York, Independent and NADA fill the city, and when a coalition of more than 20 organizations used that name in 2022. A commercial listings site, newyorkartweek.com, also uses it. None of these is the November event. This guide calls the November event by its own name, Art Week NYC, and explains the rest on its own page.

Honest gaps

What Is Not Announced Yet

Looked for on October 19, 2026, and not found:

  • Which district opens on which night, and the opening hours
  • The final gallery list, reconciling 70, 76 and “more than eighty”
  • The Midtown hub: address, schedule, speakers, sponsors
  • Tickets or RSVPs for Art Week NYC events, and the “VIP experiences” the organizers say are coming
  • Speakers, times and ticket prices for the New Museum talks
  • The ADAA Fair general admission price
  • Christie’s 21st Century Evening Sale date (the house’s series page gives November 17 to 23)

These will be added as they are published. Refresh Nov 9–10
